The pineapple has marked the entrance to grand gardens and estates for centuries — a universal symbol of welcome, abundance, and hospitality. This painted terracotta finial carries that lineage into a contemporary Indian garden setting. The acanthus leaf collar at the base, the deep diamond-scored surface, and the squared pedestal are all classically proportioned details that give it the weight of something architectural, not merely decorative.
The finish
The antiqued moss-stone finish — layered tones of pale ochre, sage green, and weathered grey — is hand-applied, giving each piece its own character. Outdoors, weathering deepens it further over time. This is a piece that looks better at two years than it does on day one.
Where it belongs
Atop a gatepost or compound wall pillar — its original and most powerful placement. On a garden step or low plinth as a focal point. Flanking an entrance as a pair. Beside a large specimen planter where height and structure are needed. At 41 cm it is substantial without being monumental — it earns its place without demanding it.
Beena’s styling note
“This piece asks for a pedestal or a pillar top — somewhere it can be seen from a distance. Don’t put it on the ground. Give it elevation and it will give you a focal point.”
